Our Story

How it all started...

Bethany is in many ways a staple of the Chicago Heights area. We have been in the neighborhood for well over 141 years performing the ministry of the Lord. For the love of God, we welcome everyone, bringing them together in the family of disciples called Bethany to proclaim the dynamic, Spirit-filled word of God. We are of Lutheran descent serving as members of the greater Metropolitan Chicago Synod, ELCA under Bishop Yehiel Curry.  Bethany prides ourselves in living by our motto of “We are a church that strives to be loving, welcoming, spirit-filled A place for everyone!”

Expanding the vision...

At Bethany, we believe the church extends far beyond the four walls of our building. Guided by the Great Commission, we are committed to going into the community to serve and connect. Each week, we partner with Advocate Aurora Healthcare to distribute healthy food to those in need, and during the Thanksgiving season, we share the joy of giving by providing free turkeys to local families. During the summer months, we also offer drive-by prayer, giving community members a chance to receive prayer and encouragement from the safety and comfort of their vehicles. Through these efforts, we strive to build meaningful connections and share God’s love in tangible, life-changing ways.

Where we are headed...

At Bethany, we strive to be a place of hope and healing for anyone seeking spiritual restoration. Pastor Sean Ramsey and First Lady Linda Ramsey are always ready to welcome the hurting with open arms, a warm smile, and a listening heart. The table is prepared, the doors are open, and the only thing missing is you. We invite you to come and experience worship, community, and the transformative love of God—your place here is waiting.
